Discovering Devon and Bridport with ChatGPT

AI is becoming more capable, so I thought I would take ChatGPT for a spin and let it write me two articles, on Devon and Bridport.

The First prompt was

"Write an article on discovering Devon in the UK"

Discovering Devon: A Guide to Exploring the Southwest of England (By ChatGPT)

Devon, located in the southwestern part of England, is a county that boasts a rich history, breathtaking natural beauty, and vibrant culture. From its rugged coastlines to rolling hills, Devon has something to offer for everyone. Here is a guide to help you discover the wonders of this magical county.

Start your adventure in Exeter, the county capital. Exeter is a historic city that dates back to the Roman times and is home to a plethora of ancient landmarks, including its medieval cathedral and the Roman walls. Take a stroll along the city's historic quayside and visit the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery to learn about the local culture and history.

Next, head to the seaside town of Dawlish, where you can walk along the famous Blackmore Gardens and enjoy the stunning views of the English Channel. The town is also home to a lively beach, perfect for sunbathing, fishing, and surfing.

If you're a fan of the great outdoors, then a visit to Dartmoor National Park is a must. This moorland wilderness is home to rolling hills, deep valleys, and babbling streams, making it a popular spot for hiking, biking, and horse riding. The park is also home to numerous prehistoric ruins and is a great place to observe wildlife, including rare birds and ponies.

No visit to Devon would be complete without exploring its stunning coastline. Take a stroll along the South West Coast Path, which spans over 600 miles, and enjoy the stunning views of the cliffs, beaches, and coves. The town of Brixham, located on the English Riviera, is a popular spot for fishing and water sports. The town is also home to the Berry Head National Nature Reserve, a great place for bird watching and exploring the local flora and fauna.

Finally, be sure to sample the local cuisine, which is heavily influenced by the sea. Devon is famous for its seafood, particularly its clotted cream and scones, which are a staple of afternoon tea in the county.

In conclusion, Devon is a county that is rich in history, natural beauty, and culture. From its ancient landmarks to its stunning coastline, there is something for everyone to discover and enjoy. So, pack your bags and start exploring this magical county today!

Devon Thoughts

It's not a bad article, but not particularly inspiring either. It gets Exeter right (except you might be disappointed if you go specifically to visit the Roman Walls), and Brixham is a good shout.

But it bigs up Dawlish (??) over other towns , doesn't mention the north coast or the correct way to make a cream tea (cream first, then jam). Plymouth and Torquay also aren't mentioned, not even in passing.

Next up is Bridport, although I don't remember the prompt.

Bridport Thoughts.

Well it seems to get all the basics. West Bay, arts, Jurassic Coast, charming, seafood, rope museum and in Dorset.  Again not inspiring but passable considering I only put in a prompt.

But I'll admit to never having heard of Bridport Country Park, but I haven't lived in Bridport for a long time. A quick search reveals that there is a Playpus Country Park in Bridport, Australia, so it might refer to that!

Finishing Up

So AI will advance, and many people will use them to write blog posts or other creations. And many will use them as a tool to help them write create their stuff.

But for the moment, it lacks the fine detail and specifics. I can continue to write my blog posts in peace. But come back to look again in a year or two.
