Food For The Creative Soul

Food For The Creative Soul

Life is a journey, and we all need our creative foods.

What are the Foods for your Soul at the moment?

Food For Our Soul

It might be conversations with friends, books, things we see or hear or the days we live. Or the places we see.

I believe that we all have those moments. Wherever we are, whatever we do those things are around us

Some of us have the privilege of going other places and doing other things. But there are many distractions out there.

How Do We Find Food For Our Soul?

These aren't the short term hits like sugar or caffeine, but things that sustain us! In the same way as movement and healthy food help our body.

How do we find it? I guess it's experience and experimentation. Realising what you want in your life for the long term and what is toxic for you. You might have some things sorted but be wanting inspiration or ideas for other parts of your life

Conversations with people who understand our creative challenges, time we people we love.

Consider if you haven't: Time in nature, new podcasts / films / genres, thing from outside of your culture or field of experience, lists of Best (films / books / podcasts etc) to get an idea. Theatre, a coffee / catch-up with someone you haven't spoken with in a while.

Not Food For Our Soul

The other part of finding it is also realising what isn't so good for you (and it's different for each of us). So for me social media, news updates. I try to check these at most once a day.

Food For My Soul

Sometimes it's not obvious on the first listen. But ideas can hit us like a large truck. (or lorry).

Picking out my highlights (that I can think of now) in recent years...

  • Big Magic by Elizabeth Day.
  • My Coffee Creatives Meetup group.
  • Books by N. K. Jemisin.
  • My constant stream of rotating podcasts
  • Walks by myself

Honourable mentions to the Resistance and my music list refreshed every 6 months

Finishing Up

It's a big subject and if it seems like it's rushed (or a confused mess) it is as I'm running off to salsa. Maybe I'll come back to it!
