The 1001 Books Club

The 1001 Books Club

I've created a new themed book club for Exmouth and Exeter!

The 1001 Books Club

The 1001 Books Club is a meetup (at least to start with), based in Exmouth and Exeter. The idea and format I appropriated from a group in Porto, the Thousand Books Club.

The idea is it's a "no read" book club, where members are invited to talk about (share) one or two books on a topic or theme. Example themes are "Your Favourite Read", "Summer Books", "Dystopia", "The Sea" and "Betrayal".

It's a great way to talk about books without having a book you all need to read. And also find out about other books you might be interested in. I miss the group in Porto and the option to go and talk about books with familiar faces, without having to prepare in advance!

It's also fairly flexible to organise, and the topics can be whatever you want. Although they need to be not too narrow and not too broad!

The More Difficult Bit

I've done book clubs before, but not this particular type. In fact I have another one right now, but the 100 Endings Book Club is centred on gamebooks and online!

The difficulty is getting it started, especially as my first event is in Exmouth. It's not a large town and Meetup isn't especially popular here. So I might have to make flyers and try getting some interest outside of my usual channel.

The other is finding a venue in Exeter. You want a place which serves drinks (coffee in the day, other options in the evening), but isn't too busy either. A place with a separate room is good or a place you can reserve. Might just have to choose a place, a date and a theme and go ahead with it!

Finishing Up

Hope you have a book club you enjoy, if reading books is your thing!
