Are Blogs Dead?

Are Blogs Dead?

Blogs are dead right? Something that was around in the 2000's and slowly died out in the 2010's?

But not for everyone...

Not the Cool Thing

They were a hit 15 years ago, when the communities lived in the comments of the blogs and it was the medium on the cutting edge. Which has been taken by Youtube or twitter or vlogs or podcasts or...

You get the idea.

If you talk about your blog you may get some surprise, that you would bother with writing words down when you could be an instagram influencer or tit-tok star or YouTube channel presenter.

I mean, why would you bother??

And Yet....

And Yet....

Blogs, They are a-Booming

Times of blogs they are a booming

WordPress is the most popular blogging platform, and much of the web runs on it.

According to Wikipedia

As of May 2021, WordPress is used by 64.8% of all the websites whose content management system is known. This is 41.4% of the top 10 million websites.

Celebrities have blogs, family members have blogs. I follow blogs on dance and stand-up-paddleboard, on roleplaying games and Polish language.

Some of my income is from a blog about random generators for Dungeons and Dragons!

One of my friends planning for his future by writing a blog on family board games.

There are people who make a living out of blogs advising others on how to write their blogs.

So blogs are alive and relevant. But in a more enduring form that some social media.

So Why Write A Blog?

You might be tempted by the opportunity for life-transformation and making a living from it.

But that's a lot of work and for most isn't the main reason.

It is what you want it to be and what you make it.

It's a place you can share your thoughts and creations. A place to explore your mind and self and feelings.

It's a place you control. If no-one reads it fine. For pleasure, for work, for ideas for creativity for freedom . For the love of writing

In theory anyone on the internet can find it. You can invite others or keep to yourself.

So go for it if you want to write one yourself. In your own way.

Finishing Up

So Blogs aren't dead. They can be used for all sorts. They just aren't the new hotness.

I'll think about some articles exploring blogs tech and how they've evolved.
